In the Valentine area of Kansas City is where you'll find this home that was constructed in 1904 and has all the charm and character from the era. Complete with a separate servant's entrance, hall stairway this was at one time a grand manor. While it's currently a short sale home that could use some repair and TLC to get back to its grandeur of the past, this isn't in terrible condition.
On the main level you'll find a gorgeous entry/welcoming area. This has the main staircase heading up the second floor and loft and through pocket doors to your left you'll see the large living room. Another set of pocket doors will lead you to the dining area and then through the butler's pantry lays the kitchen. This main level has a lot of space and a thoughtful layout that allows for a very open floor plan, or sectioned off areas, whichever you desire.
As we travel up to the second floor we'll find all four bedrooms. There is the smallest bedroom at 9 X 10 that's currently used as an office. This room has access to the rear balcony, so while it's the smallest bedroom, it does have a neat feature! The third bedroom is 13 X 10 and then bedroom four is actually a sitting area for the master bedroom if it were used as it was conceived. However it does have a pocket door and two closets, so it is technically another bedroom... even if it has a fireplace. The master bedroom has access to the main full bath and is also the largest bedroom at 16 X 12.
Up one more level to the finished attic we have a loft area. This space was used by this family as a bedroom or teen suite. It has a closet and a door for privacy, so it could function very well as a bedroom or guest suite. It's very large at 27 X 19 and could be separated into two rooms if the need were to arise.
The basement is unfinished but has plenty of room and is completely dry. This may be one of the best features of the home as many homes from this era have issues with water in the basement.
Outside is where you'll see the most need of TLC on this home. There is peeling paint on the trim and eaves. The porch will need a partial rebuild and the rear balcony is in need of repair as well. The positives are the all brick finish, slate roof and detached two car garage. This is truly a unique home with a lot of history that should be on your list of considerations. |
